Planting
Potato
Friday, May 21st, 2010I planted my potatoes a couple of weeks ago and they are getting themselves ready for another bumper crop this year. I decided to move them to the back of the plot this time as when it really rains hard, they can get a bit water-logged at the front and I end up with blight.
It [...]
Broad Beans
Thursday, May 20th, 2010Well,
Here is the video from the weekend. It gives you a little more information about how I grow broad beans.

Beans (Egypt)
Friday, August 28th, 2009I have to admit that I didn’t go to Egypt to get these beans. I took a few from a botanical garden which shall remain nameless as I loved the colour. And got told off for it, but they didn’t take the beans back.
Anyway, I dried them out last year and hey presto, they have [...]
Winter Cabbage
Saturday, June 27th, 2009I was up the plot when another plot holder came over and offered me the rest of their winter cabbage seedlings as they had too many. Never one to say no I took them and found a spot for them. Here you can see me setting up the netting hoops for them.

Courgette Hope
Thursday, June 25th, 2009I say hope, as this year I would like to have a good crop of courgettes. The last time they took and survived was three years ago. OK, I know I had a few last year, but it was not the bumper crop I had in the first year.
So this year I have grown them [...]
Parsnips
Thursday, June 25th, 2009I put the parsnips in today. They have grown on OK at home and now need to go out.
I’m looking forward to these for Xmas and beyond. It seems such a long time to wait for them, but then I don’t really want summer to be over as I wont be in the garden then.

Beetroot
Friday, June 19th, 2009Can you guess what these are?
That’s right beetroot. Everyone else’s are higher, but I am being late this year for some reason.

Courgettes
Thursday, June 18th, 2009I planted out my courgettes this week. I’m hoping that the slugs will not find them as tasty as I do. We will see. I have held a couple back in case of the inevitable.

Runner Beans
Thursday, June 18th, 2009The beans are out now too. Once again, I hope the slugs do not eat them. But it has rained a little lately and that encourages them to eat.

Cane City
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009I’ve put my canes up for beans and as you can see, so has everyone else – it’s a veritable cane vista at the plots right now. Hopefully the beans will soon grow.
This year I intend to harvest early and often as last year some of them got too far along to be sweet and [...]
Beans
Wednesday, June 10th, 2009The broad beans are not doing so well this year. Some on an adjacent plot are about a metre tall, but mine seem not willing to grow more than 30 centimetres.
I have sown some more and will try a different position on the plot to see if they will grow better. This is the last [...]
Seeds
Saturday, May 23rd, 2009I planted these seeds last week as well. They are all good seeds for me and I usually get produce from every one. The lettuce are not tight hearts which makes them great shredded for salads.
If you pick the cauliflower early you get small sweet heads, but I am inclined to leave them until they [...]
