Soil
Winding Down
Sunday, September 20th, 2009It's that time of year when most of the veg has grown and gone - well, to the store really so we can enjoy it later on.
So, today I have been grubbing up a line of strawberries that were encroaching on the plot next door. It's also time to get rid of them as they [...]
Digging Up Potatoes
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009I have been digging up my potatoes this bank holiday. I had quite a few Desiree and some Cara. The latter are a particular favourite of the slugs and so the crop was not as good as I would like. Still, there are enough to keep me going through the winter.
I took them home and [...]
Beetroot
Friday, June 19th, 2009Can you guess what these are?
That’s right beetroot. Everyone else’s are higher, but I am being late this year for some reason.

Alpine Summer
Sunday, May 31st, 2009Here are a few pics of my alpines. I do love them so as they are so delicate, yet will grow in the barest of soils and conditions.
Every year they keep on coming back better than before. This plant wasn’t even ‘planted’ by me in this spot, it just sort of appeared a couple of [...]
Peas Planting
Friday, May 22nd, 2009This is me planting out the peas last week. As you can see they are the Kelvedon Wonder variety. They should be coming up in the next week or two and I will show you then how they look.

Peas in a Pod
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009I have gone and done it and planted peas this year. I am not trusting them to the soil as mice ate them last year. I have a cunning plan this year……..

Lettuce
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009Today I planted out the lettuce. I have used a grow bag and the cold frame in order to get around the problem of the wind and the not so warm weather at the moment.

Spuds
Sunday, May 10th, 2009Here are the actual potatoes I planted in the trench yesterday. As you can see they are pretty well along the way and ripe for planting out. I hope the nails don’t cause too much of a problem for them, though with this trench I took them out of the ash first.
Doesn’t the root in [...]
Ashes.
Sunday, May 10th, 2009Somebody asked me about the ashes I used for the potatoes. As you can see from the photos below they were not quite what I had anticipated.
Some nice person offered them to me from a friend of theirs who was burning palettes (though why they don’t re-use palettes I don’t know). Silly me, I didn’t [...]
Spuds
Saturday, May 9th, 2009I dug another trench for my spuds today. As you can see from the photos below I dug it quite straight, but it wasn’t half heavy work as the soil may look dry on top, but it is not underneath. I’m only little so it’s back breaking work for me.
This is the trench I dug. [...]
Spuds
Sunday, May 3rd, 2009I have been putting my spuds in this weekend. I have a few rows now.
The video below show the trench after I have put the spuds in and covered them with rotted manure and ash to help them grow.
The next video show me backfilling the trench to cover them up. You can see that I [...]
Potatoes
Sunday, April 26th, 2009Today I am planting out my potatoes. I am doing it later than everyone else this year as I’ve been way for a while. I’m not too worried though as it means I will have spuds later into the year than most.
They are Desiree and Cara.
I have also been potting out my Begonias and setting [...]
