Plot

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

This is just a quick view of the plot. I really must go slower next time. My video camera is not what it could be either.
You can see the beans and spinach here plus cabbage under netting. The last thing you see are spuds.

You can see courgette in the second video

It’s that time of year again when the Dragon Fly’s emerge. This one was caught in the act on a warm day.

Birds of Prey

Monday, June 14th, 2010

I went to a show at the weekend in between cloud bursts and saw the birds of prey exhibit. They were wonderful. I could do with some of them over my plot to deter the pigeons.

I found this bee resting on my strawberries in the sun. I know how it feels, I can sniff strawberries all day.

There’s something uplifting about these orange marvels. When the sun hits them they just glow with joy.

Alpine Splendour

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

It's this time of year when the garden starts to show its wondrous colours. Even the alpines are putting on their best show. It has been so warm in the garden of late that they are straining at the leash to show themselves.
There is only one negative to this, that they are in the way [...]

Potato

Friday, May 21st, 2010

I planted my potatoes a couple of weeks ago and they are getting themselves ready for another bumper crop this year. I decided to move them to the back of the plot this time as when it really rains hard, they can get a bit water-logged at the front and I end up with blight.
It [...]

Planting Beans

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Well today (Sunday) was a really sunny day and I went to the plot to plant my broad beans. They had been getting steadily bigger all week and I didn't want them to get root bound in the pots. I know other allotment holders are worried about the frost getting their seedlings, but you have [...]

Rain

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

It has been a case of dodge the rain this bank holiday. I went up to the plot to plant potatoes and the heavens opened on me with hail. So I retreated after only planting a single row. I will have another go when its not so wet.
On another note, I had ants in my [...]

Getting Away From It All

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010 I had a weekend away a fortnight ago when the weather was clear. It was nice to get away and relax, especially as there wasn't much to do in the garden or plot. I went to a lovely hotel in the Malvern's called the Malvern Hills Hotel. Very nice, good food and so quiet and relaxing: I [...]

Hyacinth

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

This is a hyacinth bulb that used to be sitting indoors. I decided to plant it out and I’m hoping it will take. I expect it will require a year to grow its bulb and ‘feel’ ready to flower fully.
