Some Flowers.

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Here are a selection of flowers from around my garden. I have been trying to spend a little more time in it this year. It is a little more rewarding than the plot as it doesn’t require so much weeding. Also, it is more colourful at the moment.

I have had to do a few jobs around the house recently, and popping out into the garden to potter in between has kept me sane.

No Show.

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Well, there’s notthing to show you this week for a number of reasons. The two chief ones are that:

a) I lent my camera to someone for the weekend, so you cant see any pics as I haven’t taken any.
b) All I did today was weeding and that really isn’t worth looking at to be honest.

It’s been sunshine and showers all weekend, so I’ve been dodging them and decided to call it a day now. I’m home and about to go out for something to eat.

Hope your weekend was a good one?

Windy Plot.

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

This weekend was a complete washout. High winds and rain stopped play for the most part. You can see this on the following video. I went to put the canes in for the beans - if not to put the beans in themselves.

I did manage to get out of the car and put some of the canes up, but then the heavens opened and I was relegated to the car in the hope it would stop.

Sprouts and Cabbage

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

I was going to take some video of the plot today, but unfortunately I forgot to take the memory card for the recorder. Oooops! So, you’ll just have to do with stills of my sprouts:

They are still small, but I have fully netted them this year as there seems to be a lot of birds round that are hungry.

I also put the cabbages in and gave them collars and slug pellets as there seems to be a lot of the little blighters around:

While I was there I also put in some parsnips, but I haven’t got time to post the pics now. I will show you tomorrow.

They say there will be a frost tonight. I hope not for the sake of all the people who put out their delicate seedlings today. I wanted to tell them it was too early, but, I’m not sure they would listen to little old me.

Still Growing.

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

It has been a topsy turvey year really for growing things.

This was my Delphinium this weekdelphinium - click to enlarge

This is the third time it has flowered this year. I am worried they wont have enough energy for next year. I said that last year when they flowered twice, so I guess I shouldn’t worry that much.

Anyone else have strange stories to tell?

Grass.

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

I have left the grass this year as it is too late to mow again. It has already grown more than I thought and I am now contemplating getting the mower out again.grass - click to enlarge

The Plots.

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I just thought you might like to see the other plots on the site. They are just as overgrown and weedy as mine. So I’m not being lazy, honest.plots - click to enlarge

State of Plot.

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

I have decided this year that the best form of defence against the weather is to accept that this year is not the year for growing things on the plot.

As you can see from the video, the weeds are like triffids and have taken over despite my best efforts. In fact, my plot is one of the lesser overgrown ones. Most others have given up sooner. However, I am still harvesting a few items from it and so it does add to the pot.

I would much rather have it as it was last year though.

Nothing Doing.

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

Just a quick update to say that the wet weather has returned this weekend with a vengeance and I wasn’t able to do much at the plot. I did some weeding, but that’s all.

At home I picked a cucumber and enjoyed some of that. The lilies are still flowering which is surprising, but welcome. They have a few bugs, but a spray of bug killer sorts them out.

Hopefully I will get up in the week. :)

Weather.

Monday, June 25th, 2007

It’s been foul weather this past week, so I have only been occasionally up to the allotment. Also at the weekend I was away so I couldn’t go then. I am going up tonight though to check what has been happening and seeing if anything has been decimated by the weather. :(

No Go.

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

It’s been a no go so far this weekend for the allotment. I haven’t been able to get up due to the horrendous rain and lightening we have been having.

So here is a picture of my Cotoneasta - albeit in infra-red.

Rain.

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

It’s mostly raining today and I have been caught in a few showers.

I’m trying to mow the grass before I go away for a few days, but the rain seems to seek me out and the heavy downpours are making it difficult going. I have had to stop four times so far.

Oh well, hopefully I will get it done soon. Then I am going to sow some more seeds.

This morning I weeded the plot and will do some more on it tomorrow.

Must get on, the rain has stopped so I want to have a go at the grass before the heavens open again.
